Lauchhammer

The city that is inextricably linked to the foundry.

Lauchhammer, an idyllic town in the south of Brandenburg, is located in the district of Oberspreewald-Lausitz and offers a fascinating mix of history, nature and culture. This charming town is an ideal destination for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy a tranquil, historic setting.

With a population of around 15,000, it covers an area of around 80 square kilometres and is nestled in a beautiful landscape characterised by forests, lakes and heathland. Its industrial past has left its mark on the cityscape and is still reflected today in the numerous historical buildings and industrial monuments.

History and culture

Lauchhammer looks back on a long and interesting history. The town was formed by the amalgamation of several villages and became very important in the 19th century due to its industrial development. Lauchhammer is particularly famous for its ironworks, which were founded in the 18th century by Baroness von Löwendal. We, the Lauchhammer foundry, still produce high-quality artistic castings that can be admired in many parts of Germany and the world.
The town's cultural heritage is preserved by several museums and historical sites. Lauchhammer-West Castle, which was built in the Baroque style, and the estate park invite you to take a leisurely stroll. The Lauchhammer Art Casting Museum is a must for art and history enthusiasts, as it presents an impressive collection of art castings and the history of our foundry.

Transformation 1.535° - the latest developments

As part of the new image building and subtitling of the town of Lauchhammer as "Lauchhammer - Kunstguss Stadt", the project "Transformation 1.535°" (originally "ERZ + KOHLE") is being developed to revitalise and promote tourism marketing, art, education and culture to promote the location. The aim of the project is to create an education and experience centre for art casting and industrial culture. The Bio Towers and the area of the Kunstgiesserei, the Kunstguss Museum and the Friedensgedächtniskirche will synergistically bring together the impressive history and innovative modern foundry.

Nature and leisure

Lauchhammer is surrounded by a picturesque landscape that is ideal for outdoor activities. The nearby Niederlausitzer Heidelandschaft Nature Park offers numerous hiking and cycling trails that lead through dense forests, heathland and idyllic lakes. The Grünewalder Lauch, a popular bathing lake, is ideal for swimming, fishing and boating in summer.

Another highlight is the Lauchhammer town park with its extensive green spaces, ponds and playgrounds. Here, visitors can relax, have a picnic or simply enjoy nature.

Economy and infrastructure

Lauchhammer's economy is strongly characterised by industry. In addition to the traditional ironworks, the town has also developed into a centre for renewable energies. Several companies from the solar and wind energy sector have established themselves in the region and contribute to economic stability.

Lauchhammer's infrastructure is well developed. The town is connected to the surrounding towns and the A13 motorway by several main roads. Local public transport is also well developed, which facilitates mobility within the town and to neighbouring regions.

Education and social services

Lauchhammer attaches great importance to education and social facilities. The town has several kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools. There are also numerous clubs and social organisations that promote and support community life.

Events and festivals

The inhabitants of Lauchhammer like to celebrate and this is reflected in the numerous events and festivals that take place throughout the year. Particularly popular are the town festival in summer and the Christmas market, which bathes the town in a festive atmosphere. These events offer a great opportunity to experience the local culture and enjoy the hospitality of the locals.

Lauchhammer - subtitled "Kunstguss Stadt" since 2022 - is an up-and-coming town that, like our foundry, combines tradition and modernity in a unique way. With its rich history, beautiful nature and vibrant community life, it offers both residents and visitors plenty to discover and enjoy. Whether you are interested in culture, nature or just a relaxing stay, Lauchhammer has something for everyone.
